The Balzan Musicology Project towards a global history of music, the study of global modernisation, and open questions for the future

This essay originates from a paper given at a seminar The Future of Music History organised by Prof. Jim Samson, during the eponymous conference at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (28–30 September 2017). Earlier versions of this paper have been presented at the joint triple conference of ICTM, IMS and IAML, Music as Cultural Heritage in Abu Dhabi (New York University Campus) on 13 March 2017, and at the IMS Round Table Towards a global history of music at the IMS 2017 Tokyo conference on 22 March 2017.
