La educación es un problema esencial de la filosofía porque la filosofía es razón práctica, educación del alma. La educación tradicional se ha basado en el enseñar, es decir, en el profesor y en los contenidos que explica. Pero la pedagogía socrática se centra en el alumno y en el aprender. En esta praxis educativa sin embargo la función del maestro es primordial. Tiene que enseñar al alumno a aprender por sí mismo, desde dentro. Su papel es ayudar al alumno a descubrir los contenidos, en vez de dárselos directamente desde fuera. Para ello el maestro tiene que convertir la pregunta en método pedagógico.
