- 1. Animal models of drug-induced cardiomyopathy relevant to clinical medicine have been difficult to produce. 2. Animal species commonly used to study cardiomyopathies include the rabbit, rat, and mouse of which none are completely satisfactory. 3. Recently, the turkey poult has been proposed as an attractive animal model for investigation of drug-induced cardiomyopathy
