Abstract

Summary Seeds of higher plants are known to be rich in cytokinins. However the single seed components have been infrequently isolated and analysed, studies being usually referred to the whole seed. Data are presented on the occurrence and identity of cytokinins in the endosperm of Sechium edule seeds at different developmental stages. The results demonstrate the presence of 2iPNT, ZNT, ZR, Z, ZOG and ZROG. The possible significance of cytokinin nucleotides, ribosides, free bases and O-glucosides in this tissue is discussed.
