La frontera invisible del territorio Wayúu

El territorio del pueblo autóctono wayúu se sitúa, en la actualidad, en la frontera de Colombia y Venezuela. Las representaciones acerca de “la Gran Nación wayúu, dónde no existe la frontera” se encuentran en textos de la literatura sociológica y antropológica y también son expresadas por algunas personas de este pueblo. Pero la demarcación del límite geográfico tiene efectos reales sobre la movilidad y las percepciones dentro del territorio. Es así como, el presente artículo, busca mostrar algunas representaciones acerca de la demarcación invisible que atraviesa el territorio wayúu, que contrasta con los testimonios de lo que ocurre en la práctica para las y los wayúu, realidad confrontada a las representaciones de un territorio sin fronteras. The territory of the wayuu people is, currently, located along the northern border of Colombia and in the northeastern Venezuela. The representations concerning “the Great wayuu Nation, where there is no border” can be found in sociological and anthropological literature and are also expressed by some people of the wayuu ethnic group. But the legal international demarcation of the border has consequences for the mobility and affects the perceptions within the Wayúu territory. This paper discusses some of the representations concerning the invisible frontier that crosses the territory, comparing this to some testimonies of what in practice means the crossing of the invisible demarcation for the Wayúu, a reality that is confronted to the representations of a territory without borders.
