Measurements of total collision cross section for dimers of simple atoms and molecules in the glory- and transition region

Relative values of total collision cross sections are presented for Ar 2 , Ne 2 , and for a number of molecular dimers e.g. (N 2 ) 2 , with noble gases as scattering partner. The results follow a universal curve if plotted versus ν re1 /ϵ R m . From this plot the dimer van der Waals constant C 6 is derived being about twice as large as for the monomer, for the heavy systems.
