Abstract: Partial hydrolysis of streptothricin was most readily carried out in dilute acid solution. The hydrolysate had no antimicrobial activity, and its toxicity was six times that of streptothricin. From this inactive substance the original active antibiotic was regenerated with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide.
