Abstract

50. Navicula plicatula Grunow (Figs 99, 100) Type locality: Gulf of Naples; Balearic Islands; Madagascar; Seychelles; Japan. Reference: Lobban et al. 2012. p. 293, pl. 48, figs 1–3. Morphometrics: Valves 66–81 (49–64) μm long, 24–26 (15–18) μm wide, and transapical striae 18 (15–24) in 10 μm. Remarks: Navicula plicatula contains not only sinuous raphe, but also raised raphe fissures, and is distinguished from others. This taxon was reported from Balearic Island and Naples in the Mediteranean (Peragallo & Peragallo 1897–1908), Philippines (Mann 1925), Guam and Society Islands of the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea (Lobban et al. 2012), and is also indicated on the check-list of Chinese marine diatoms (Liu 2008). It was encountered rarely along the Seogwipo coast in Jeju Island, and represents a new record for South Korea.
Published as part of Joh, Gyeongje, 2021, Distribution and frequent occurrence of diatom taxa (Bacillariophyta) inhabiting warmer oceans in Seogwipo coast of Jeju Island, southernmost Korea, pp. 1-67 in Phytotaxa 517 (1) on page 34, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.517.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/8061058
{"references":["Lobban, C.
