Abstract

Is it true that ultra-wideband (UWB) microwave radiation provides independent information about human tissue compared to conventional diagnostic modalities such as ultrasound, X-Ray or MRI? The goal of the present work is to address this question in a clinical study by means of concurrent UWB microwave measurements (0.5 GHz-20 GHz) and ultrasound measurements (18 MHz) on freshly excised breast biopsies. This paper also describes the clinical workflow and introduces a sample holder that accounts for the special requirements of UWB microwave measurements and ultrasound measurements.
