Abstract
- Summary Peripheral longitudinal growth stresses measurement discloses the mechanical state of the last xylem cells differentiated from cambium. The occurrence of a strain peak is generally an indication of a reorientation movement of the stem. However, it is not a rare occurrence to obtain some more complicated strain profiles. “Organisation pattern”, a new architectural concept developed by Edelin (1991), seems pertinent to “unusual” profiles analysis. This idea is illustrated through exemples from temperate and tropical monopodial and sympodial trees.
