Irréductibles Tarentins : entre Grèce et Italie, la construction d’une identité inspirée par l’Antiquité

En Italie, l’Antiquité est au cœur de la vie politique, culturelle, idéologique et économique. Si la romanité a fait l’objet d’une attention particulière de la part des historiens, notamment en lien avec la propagande fasciste, le passé grec des régions du sud et ses usages méritent également que l’on s’y intéresse. La ville de Tarente, dans les Pouilles, offre un cas d’étude intéressant. Le passé antique de la cité, fondée à la fin du viiie siècle av. J.‑C. par des Grecs d’origine spartiate, fait en effet l’objet ces dernières années d’un intérêt important, de la part d’acteurs aux intentions parfois contradictoires. Entre branding touristique, discours identitaire et médiation scientifique, les institutions et associations tarentines tentent de faire face à la grave crise sanitaire et économique que traverse la cité en valorisant son histoire et son patrimoine. In Italy, Antiquity is at the heart of political, cultural, ideological and economic life. While romanity has been the subject of particular attention by historians, especially in connection with fascist propaganda, the Greek past of the southern regions and its uses also deserve attention. The city of Taranto, in Puglia, offers an interesting case study. The ancient past of the city, founded at the end of the 8th century BC by Greeks of Spartan origin, has in fact been the object of great interest in recent years, on the part of actors with sometimes contradictory intentions. Between tourist branding, identity discourse and scientific mediation, Taranto institutions and associations are trying to face the unprecedented health and economic crisis that the city is going through by promoting its history and heritage.
