Abstract

This chapter aims to collocate Akoma Ntoso into the historical scenario of the legal XML schemas and to define the pillars of the Akoma Ntoso architecture. Second goal is to present the basic elements of Akoma Ntoso XML standard and how it can be used for marking up a legal document respecting a clear subdivision between the semantic layer of the knowledge embedded into the document.
