Abstract
- Purpose This study aimed to elucidate the characteristics of biliary tract carcinoma (BTC) in young patients. Methods This is a nationwide multicenter, retrospective cohort study supervised by the Japanese Society of Hepato‐Biliary‐Pancreatic Surgery (JSHBPS). Clinicopathological data of patients aged<br />Highlight Ariake and colleagues elucidated that the most frequent factor associated with biliary tract carcinoma in young patients was pancreaticobiliary maljunction. Further analysis revealed that the distribution of cancer‐associated factors differed dramatically depending on the site of biliary tract carcinoma, suggesting that each site has a different mechanism of cancer development.
