Abstract
- IN THE first paper of this series (Lorenz and Starr, 1952; referred to hereafter as 1) the results of a study of washing eggs by different methods in the laboratory were discussed and pertinent literature was reviewed. The experiment reported here was intended to obtain more extensive information on some of the variables discussed in that paper and to compare washing in the laboratory with washing on the ranch. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eggs from a single nearby poultry ranch only were used in this trial. Three days each week during 4 consecutive weeks the entire day’s production of this ranch was brought to the laboratory immediately after the final collection for that day. These eggs were then segregated at once according to cleanliness, and eggs that had checked or grossly imperfect shells were removed.
