Abstract

The importance and effectiveness of integrated pestmanagement (IPM) is well recognized throughout the world.Agricultural practitioners use this management practiceto improve the total yield and to reduce the indiscriminateuse of pesticides. Thus, IPM practices not only improve theenvironmental condition but also cut down the overpricedchemical usage. However, few studies directly assess itsimpact on pest occurrence, abundance and its regulation. InIndia there is little work to recommend that IPM is efficientand this is evident from the paucity of successful pestmanagement reports. In this systematic review we aimed toexamine the available scientific data addressing the effects ofIPM on pest abundance in Indian vegetable cropping systems. In our study, weidentified a total ofonly 17 studiesfromIndia that investigated impact of IPM in vegetable farms. Outof these studies, only 2 studies measured pest abundance,9 studies investigated impact on biological agents, 2 studiesinvestigated host resistance genotypes, 3 studies showed thepotential use of natural enemies, and rest showed use of greenchemicals and weed management techniques. The areas offuture research on impact of IPM and its comprehensive pestregulation measures are discussed in this review.&nbsp
