Écriture et images de soi

Cet article présente les caractéristiques du manuscrit de l’Histoire de ma vie dans la collection de la Pléiade, esquisse une chronologie de la rédaction des Mémoires, et justifie les choix éditoriaux. Il montre un Casanova au travail, corrigeant, améliorant et amendant son texte jusqu’à sa mort, et étudie comment ont pu se constituer et se modifier au cours de l’écriture certaines images du Vénitien. L’article est suivi d’un texte sur les notes infrapaginales, qui constituent l’une de spécificités de l’édition Pléiade.
This article describes the distinctive features of the manuscript of ­Casanova’s Memoirs in the series Pléiade, provides a chronology of the writing process and justifies the choices made by the editors. It allows us to see Casanova at work. It gives us a better understanding of the relationship between the act of writing and the ­construction of various images of the self. The article is followed by a short text, examining the issue of the footnotes, which ­constitutes one of the specificities of this edition.
