Abstract

The authors have studied the production of hadrons and photons in the reaction Pb(Pb, X) at 158 A.GeV. They have applied the discrete wavelet transform to the photon and charged-particle correlations in order to obtain a set of father function coefficients. They try to explain the multiplicity fluctuations by means of localized disoriented chiral condensate domains. (7 refs). A detailed analysis of the phase space distributions of charged particles and photons have been carried out using two independent methods. The results indicate the presence of nonstatistical fluctuations in localized regions of phase space.
