Abstract

A group of 55 chronically hospitalized, lobotomized schizophrenic patients were evaluated as to their response to chlonpromazine and reserpine. Of the 27 patients receiving only chlorpromazine, three patients displayedMarked Improvement; seven,Moderate Improvement; nine,Minimal Improvement; and seven,No Change. Of the 12 patients receiving only reserpine, none showedMarked Improvement; two showedModerate Improvement; six,Minimal Improvement; and four showedNo Change. From these results it would appear that chlorpromazine seems somewhat more effective than reserpine in the treatment of lobotomized schizophrenic patients.
