The Florentine Codex: Book I - The Gods (Nahuatl)

The General/Universal History of the Things of New Spaincomprises twelve books by the Franciscan Fray Bernardino de Sahagún (*1499 - †1590). After being lost for three centuries, a rediscovered manuscript of this ethnographic research study was namedFlorentine Codexafter its storage in the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence. In the first book, we learn about the Gods of the Mexica, including Quetzalcoatl, Tlaloc, and Huitzilopochtli. It is a description of each god, for example, their personality traits and their specific adornments.&nbsp
