Abstract
- Brandt et al.1 addressed transient changes of the inner retina in neuroinflammatory diseases. However, we do not agree with some of the aspects of this study. Optical coherence tomography (OCT), the optical imaging method used, is incapable of providing information content equivalent to real histologic investigations. Pathologists define a cyst as an abnormal membranous sac with distinguishing aspects of some surrounding cells lining the wall of the cyst. Therefore, we recommend using the more careful description of “cystoid” spaces or “pseudocysts.” When explaining transient changes of the inner retina, was it necessary to develop attempts at theoretical explanations of vitreoretinal traction forces? …
