Abstract
- The value of prepartum fetal movement patterns as a sign of fetal health was compared with intrapartum fetal heart rate patterns. Prepartum rather than intrapartum surveillance appeared to be the most effective technique to avoid perinatal deaths. Furthermore, it is argued that, except for true birth trauma, the occurrence of cerebral palsy is seldom related to intrapartum factors.
