FILAROIDES MEPHITIS N. SP. (METASTRONGYLOIDEA: FILAROIDIDAE) FROM THE LUNGS OF EASTERN CANADIAN SKUNKS

Filaroides mephitis n.sp. is described and compared to other members of the genus reported from mustelids. F. mephitis differs from F. martis (Werner, 1782) Dougherty, 1943 in that the spicules are much smaller and there is no swelling of the body in the region of the vulva; from F. milksi Whitlock, 1956 in body size, spicular size, and the lack of a vulvar inflation; and from F. canadensis Anderson, 1963 in the morphology of the spicules and gubernaculum.
