Abstract
- A general introduction to the current state of knowledge of the long- range transport of trace elements is given in Chapter 2 (p. 37). In this chapter we present four case studies to illustrate our level of understanding of the processes and to draw attention to the gaps in the current knowledge. Each case has been treated differently to reflect the complexity of the case and the available data base. The approaches we used are exploratory and our results, preliminary. However, these results do illustrate ways in which we might improve our undertanding of the processes involved in long-range transport. The themes common to each case are explored in the final section.
