New approaches to gathering, analysis and interpretation of half hourly energy metering data from buildings

Abstract
- Historically, energy surveys have been carried out to identify efficiency improvements and understand annual or monthly energy use. However, meter readings are increasingly collected half hourly, generating large volumes of data. This paper describes the management and analysis of around 2.5 million meter data points collected from buildings. A review of methods of gathering energy metering data is presented, including options for non-invasive monitoring. This is followed by a summary of mathematical methods which can be used for analysis of metering data. Finally, examples showing analysis of half-hourly metering data are presented.
