Abstract
- 12 The Loxocarpinae, also known as the “Boea group”, are the subtribe of Gesneriaceae 13 which includes Boea and a number of segregated genera and close relatives. This group 14 currently comprises over 200 species in 15 genera. Here we present the most up-to-date 15 phylogeny, covering all the genera known to belong to the group, based on Bayesian 16 Inference and Parsimony of the nuclear ITS and the plastid regions trnL-trnF (intron 17 and spacer) and ndhFtrnL (spacers). The results show discrepancies between the 18 current generic delimitation in the subtribe and the clades delineated by the phylogeny. 19 As a result Boea, Damrongia, Streptocarpus and Paraboea are recircumscribed in an 20 attempt to establish a more natural classification and a number of new combinations are 21 made. The new genus Middletonia is described. 22
