Abstract
- In this paper, we focus our attention on the design, synthesis and properties of fullerene derivatives bearing electron donor units covalently or noncovalently attached to the fullerene core. Novel classes of (polyphenylenevinylene)-C 60 (PPV-C 60 ) dyads were synthesized and organic light emitting diodes and photovoltaic devices were fabricated. The dumbbell-type [60]fullerene dimer containing a cyanine dye was synthesized and its molecular structure is studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The [60]fullerene derivative C 60 BPY and C 60 TPY were also prepared and were employed to self-assemble on the surface of Au(1 1 1) and the gold nanoparticles. In this report, the noncovalently self-assembly systems through weak interaction were also studied.
