Abstract

Urophora jaculata Rondani, 1870 ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1870a: 14 (key), 18 (description). TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agri parmensis collibus … in provincis australioris Italiae [Parmese hills … provinces of southern Italy]”. TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype (abdomen in microvial pinned below specimen) (MZUF: Box 32): Urophora Desv. / jaculata Rnd., Sicil. [= Sicily] / 1689 / To be lectotype Urophora jaculata Rondani, det. I.M. White, 1986. PARALECTOTYPES EXAMINED: 1 ♀ (double-mounted: fastened by a micro pin to a polyethylene foam block on a standard insect pin, abdomen in microvial pinned below specimen) (MZUF: Box 32): Urophora Desv. / jaculata Rnd., Sicil. [= Sicily] / 1689 / paralectotype Urophora jaculata Rondani, det. I.M. White, 1986; 1 ♀ (doublemounted: fastened by a micro pin to a polyethylene foam block on a standard insect pin, abdomen in microvial pinned below specimen) (MZUF: Box 32): Urophora Desv. / jaculata Rnd., Sicil. [= Sicily] / 1689 / Vesuvio / paralectotype Urophora jaculata Rondani, det. I.M. White, 1986. CURRENT STATUS: valid species (Foote 1984: 142, White & Korneyev 1989: 579, Belcari et al. 1995b: 8, Norrbom et al. 1999: 242). REMARKS: Rondani (1870a: 18) described Urophora jaculata from five specimens, providing specific characters for the male and female: “ In speciminibus quinque a me observatis [In the five specimens observed by me]”, from material that he had collected and the he had also received from A.H. Haliday. The type series consists of three specimens in the MZUF.
