Abstract

A hybrid digital/optical correlator system has been built that performs pure phase correlation[1]. The pure phase correlation[2] uses only the phase information of the object and template, i.e. it takes the phase distribution of the Fourier transform of the object to be recognised and it correlates it with the phase-only filter (POF) defined by Homer[3]. This type of correlator shows sharp correlation peaks, a high light efficiency, and a high discrimination capability.
