Abstract: We describe a new farm scale model to optimize management of UK dairy farming systems in order to meet environmental and economic targets. The effect of abatement measures for nitrate (NO 3 ) leaching on the emissions of nitrous oxide (N 2 O) and methane (CH 4 ) and the economic output of a dairy farm was investigated using this model. The model is a useful tool to evaluate potential pollution swapping when applying abatement measures.
