Abstract

Mitrapsylla Crawford (Figs 30, 56, 82) Diagnosis: Head slightly wider than mesonotum; lateral ocelli raised on tubercles; anteorbital tubercles present as tubercles in front of lateral ocelli; a prominent ridge along each side of coronal suture; genal processes conical, 0.30.9 times as long as vertex (Fig. 30). Antennae 2.14.4 times longer than head width; segment 8 the longest; terminal setae subequal, longer than segment 10. Clypeus with a pair of long setae and a group of shorter ones. Forewing obovate, broadly rounded apically; pterostigma and costal break present; vein Cu1a strongly arched so that cell cu1 tall; radular spinules forming narrow patches (Fig. 56). Meracanthus prominent, pointed; metatibia with genual spine and 1+3+1 apical spurs; metabasitarsus with 2 apical spurs. Male proctiger and aedeagus lobed (Crawford 1914; Brown & Hodkinson 1988). Biology and damage: Immatures are free-living (Brown & Hodkinson 1988) and secrete wax filaments (Palmer & Pullen 2001). Mitrapsylla albalineata Crawford is considered a potential weed control agent for Senna obtusifolia (Fabaceae), commonly found infesting terminal leaves (Palmer & Pullen 2001). Host-plants: Fabaceae (Ouvrard 2017). Distribution: Neotropic and Neartic regions (Ouvrard 2017). Examined material: Mitrapsylla burckhardti Brown & Hodkinson: Magdalena: 14 (male, female), Santa Marta, Punta de Betn, 19-Nov-1985, light trap (H. G.
