Abstract
- This thesis presents a thematic study of dynamic collaboration between the king and his nobility in late medieval Scotland, through the case study of Thomas Randolph, earl of Moray. It concludes that patronage, service, and successfully managing a network of affiliates and allies were critical to Randolph's rise in status and efficacy as Robert I's chief representative, culminating in his appointment as Guardian of Scotland in the minority of Robert's son, David II. Randolph's case sheds new light on Scottish medieval political life
