La ganadería española a finales del siglo XIX (Una aproximación geográfica a partir del Censo de 1865)

En 1865 se realizó el primer Censo de la Ganadería de España, iniciando una serie estadística que no tuvo continuidad en el futuro. Es un documento de extraordinario valor por la información que contiene y por el momento de su realización, coincidente con las transformaciones agrarias que supusieron el fin del modelo ganadero vigente durante siglos. Los datos que contiene nos ilustran sobre la ganadería española y el máximo alcanzado por ésta en el último tercio del siglo XIX, solamente logrado de nuevo a mediados del Siglo XX. A partir de ellos hemos elaborado las tablas y mapas de densidad por especies y carga ganadera total, los cuales muestran la distribución geográfica de las mismas, conforme a un modelo territorial cuya principal característica era la integración e interdependencia de los aprovechamientos agrícolas y ganaderos. In 1865 the first livestock census was done in Spain, it was the beginning of a statistical study that did not continue in the future. It is a precious document because of its information and because of the moment when it was written, coinciding with the agricultural transformations that meant the end of the current cattle model used for centuries. The document contains some data that give us information about the Spanish livestock and its peak reached in the last third of the 19th century, which will be only achieved again in the mid-20th century. We have made the charts and maps of species density and total livestock load from them, which show its geographical distribution in relation to a territorial model whose main feature was the integration and interdependence of the areas used for agricultural and cattle use.
