Abstract

Archaeology and ethnoarchaeology have searched, among various objectives, for the understanding of the ways in which human populations explore, transform and manage landscapes and their resources and, simultaneously, verify how these behaviors result on the formation of material records. In this work I intend to contribute for this research agenda, presenting a contribution on the specifc ways in which the Asurini of the Xingu – a TupiGuarani population that lives at the margins of the Xingu river, Para State – apprehend their territory within the Kuatinemu Indigenous Land, and which meanings are attributed to certain places, as well as to the existing material record (archaeological and historical), constituting what could be defned as places of memory.
