Synthesis of a Dipole Array with Optimally End-fire Directive Pattern

In this work, a formula is derived for generating optimally directive pattern for an arbitrary antenna array including mutual coupling effect, and it is then applied to design the optimally directive four-element end-fire dipole array. Synthesis results show that the obtained directivity coefficient is about 2dB and 3.5dB higher than those of ordinary and hansen-woodyard four-element end-fire dipole arrays.
