Abstract
- Summary form only given. The investigation of the characteristics of hollow cathode glow discharges and plasma production are important in different applications, applied physics, technology, environment, hollow cathode UV light sources, hollow cathode gas lasers, and air treatment. In this work we have studied the characteristics of two types of hollow cathode glow discharges and the plasmas produced. One kind is plasma has a large area at low gas pressure (0.1 to 10 Torr) using three electrodes, the second is confined in a small area inside the two hollow electrodes under high gas pressure (20-400 Torr). The gases used were He, Ar and dry air. The experimental work carried out under applied voltage DC and pulsed range from 300 V to 12 kV and the discharge current varied (1-20 mA). The pulse repetition rate varies (1-200 Hz), with pulse duration 750 /spl mu/s. I-V characteristics, plasma imaging and line profile, plasma life time, spectroscopic measurements were done.
