Abstract
- In this presentation, I review a number of lessons learned from resolved multi-wavelength studies of galaxies from the peak epoch of star formation 10 billion years ago to later epochs when star formation activity in the Universe dwindled. I discuss the nature of star-forming diskgalaxies from their clumpy appearance to their underlying kinematics and structure. Outstanding questions regarding where and when stars are forming (and stop forming) within these disk galaxies are addressed, with an outlook on upcoming programmes with JWST. Finally, I cover inferences of 3D intrinsic shapes for both the star-forming and quiescent population and touch on techniques adopted to reconstruct evolutionary sequences to link high-redshift galaxies to their descendants at later epochs.
