Mental imagery

This chapter offers an overview of cognitive studies on mental imagery. The main theoretical approaches are presented (propositional, dual-code, visual buffer, visuospatial working memory), as well as the results within each main experimental paradigm, including methods being used in neuroscience. Paradigms are distinguished according to their focus on subjective experience, processes, material characteristics, and individual differences. Particular attention is devoted to the consideration of the role of mental imagery in memory, with a presentation of the main imagery mnemonics.
