Abstract

Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM) emulation is the subject of growing interest in the world of industry and academia. A key challenge in the development of PHIL systems is achieving emulation stability and accuracy, which are necessary elements for appropriate testing of the Device Under Test (DUT). In obtaining such features, when a switching-converter is chosen as power amplifier, a major role is played by the choice of the coupling network. Despite the increased attention gained by PHIL solutions, advantages and drawbacks of the different coupling networks are still object of investigation when PMSM emulation must be performed. This paper addresses PHIL emulation bandwidth, stability, and accuracy, when a LCL coupling network is connected between the power amplifier and the DUT. The proposed analysis is validated at first through the digital-switching model created in Matlab/Simulink.
