Abstract

A surgeon has been struck off for failing to tell employers that he was being investigated for sending home an emergency department patient who died two days later, and for carelessly keeping and storing confidential patient information at his home. Kamal Abusin, 61, missed a “red flag” indicative of bowel perforation before discharging the patient, a medical practitioners tribunal found. But while the tribunal held that this amounted to serious misconduct, it noted that it was a single incident nearly five years ago and that his current references were good.
