Abstract

Tillicera paula Schenkling, 1908 (Figs. 14, 37–38) Tillicera paula Schenkling 1908: 224. Specimens examined: Holotype: ♀. Type, Tillicera, Paula Schklg., Type! n. sp., H.L. Andrewes, Nilgiri Hills, Andrewes, Bequest., B.M. 1922-221 (BMNH). Others: S. India: Nilgiri, Hills: Cherangode, 3500ft 11.1950, P.S. Nathan (RGCM). Length: 6–7mm (2 specimens). Collecting period: November. Head: Black, glossy, anterior part of clypeus, labrum and palpi brown, posterior part of clypeus black; distributed with fine and diffuse punctation; cranium vested with erect predominantly pale setae; head including eyes as broad as anterior width of pronotum. Antennae: Dark brown to black, A1 to A5 paler, vested with depressed, brown and golden setae; antennomeres triangularly dilated from A5 or A6 onwards, A10 broader than long. Pronotum: Red-brown to brown, anterior to transverse depression slightly darker; surface finely and densely punctate; vested with anteriorly directed, erect, dense, golden setae, surface posterior of transverse depression also with long, dark, erect setae; length:width ratio 1.1:1 (broadest at middle). Scutellum: Brown, finely punctate, vested with few golden setae. Elytra: Basal third red-brown, posteriorly margined with a yellowish pigmented transverse fascia (which is vested with dense, depressed, golden setae), middle part black, apical third brown, with a transverse fascia of dense, pattern-forming, depressed, golden setae. Basal third regularly and deeply punctate in rows, rows 3 to 5, or 3 to 6, obsolete in the black part, with small tubercles, diameter of punctures larger than interstices, apex finely and diffusely punctate; basal third with long, erect golden and dark setae, the black middle part with posteriorly directed and semi-decumbent, dark setae, apical third with depressed and erect golden setae, apex only with erect, golden setae; length:width ratio 2.11:1. Legs: Brown, with erect pale setae; tibiae without carinae. Ventral surface: Abdomen dark brown to black, thorax brown, with dense, pale setae. Aedeagus: Asymmetrical, with tooth-like structures.
