Abstract

The rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of readily available α,β-unsaturated esterphosphonates affords the corresponding α-chiral phosphonates in excellent yield and ee. The resulting products are useful multifunctional building blocks applied in the synthesis of physiologically active compounds.
