Abstract
- During the past few decades, numerous protein-based pharmaceuticals to treat chronic and life-threatening diseases have emerged. The short plasma half-life of therapeutic proteins requests frequent administration, usually via parenteral routes. This short-coming is proposed to be solved by the development of an injectable microparticulate drug delivery system (DDS) where the proteins are encapsulated to control the release of the drugs after administration.
