Abstract

Clavelina mirabilis Kott, 1972 Clavelina mirabilis Kott, 1972: 165; 1990a: 50. Distribution. New records: Tasmania (Bicheno, Hairy Wall dive site east of Governor’s I., rock slope, 15–20 m, SAM E2845). Previously known from only two specimens off Waldegrave I., S.A. The new record suggests that the species has a wide range in the Southern Ocean, extending into the Great Australian Bight and up the eastern coast of Tasmania. Description. The newly recorded specimen has a common cylindrical stalk but the thoracic parts of the zooids are independent of one another each in a separate covering of clear transparent test. Thoracic muscle bands are arranged as recorded for the type, namely 8E, 8B, 2D.<br />Published as part of KOTT, PATRICIA, 2003, New syntheses and new species in the Australian Ascidiacea, pp. 1611-1653 in Journal of Natural History 37 (13) on page 1616, DOI: 10.1080/00222930110104258, http://zenodo.org/record/5260089
