Abstract

Key to males of D. inextricata group 1 Cercus acute apically, its length subequal to or greater than proctiger lateral width (Figs 10, 15, 17). Ventral margin of gonostylus bulbous (Fig. 10). Basal gonocoxal lobe rectangular in ventral view (Fig. 16), its apex strongly falcate in lateral view (Figs 10, 15). Apical gonocoxal lobe blunt, rounded in lateral view, not digitiform (Figs 10, 15)............ calciphilum sp. nov. - Cercus blunt apically, its length ca. one-half that of proctiger lateral width (Figs 9, 11, 12, 18). Ventral margin of gonostylus not strongly bulbous convex (Figs 9, 11, 12, 18). Basal gonocoxal lobe digitiform in ventral view (Figs 13, 19), its apex in lateral view subovoid-round, not strongly falcate (Figs 9, 11, 12, 18). Apical gonocoxal lobe digitiform (Figs 9, 11, 12, 18).... 2 2 Gonostylus less than 1.5 X longer than greatest width in lateral view, with ventral margin slightly convex (Figs 9, 12). Basal gonocoxal lobe oval-round, directed dorsally............................................. appalachiensis sp. nov. - Gonostylus 2 X longer than greatest width in lateral view, with ventral margin straight or slightly concave (Figs 11, 18). Basal gonocoxal lobe subovoid, directed posterodorsally, its distal margin indented slightly........................ inextricata<br />Published as part of Moulton, John K., 2016, The Dixa inextricata Dyar & Shannon (Diptera: Dixidae) species group, with two new cryptic species from the eastern Nearctic Region, pp. 458-472 in Zootaxa 4121 (4) on pages 470-471, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4121.4.6, http://zenodo.org/record/265286
