Abstract

Department of Postrgradnate Studies and Research in Chemistry, University of Mysore, Manama Gangotti, Mysore-570 006 Manuscript received 27 December 1982, accepted 8 June 1985 Kinetics of chlorination of aniline(S) by chloramine-B(CAB) in HCI medium obey the rate law -\(\frac{D[CAB]}{dt}=\)k'[CAB][H+]o.2\(\Psi\)[S]o.4+K"[CAB][Cl-]o.7[S]o.4 The active species in the oxidation is RNH2Cl+. Chloride ion catalyses the reaction. An order of dependence of 2.0 on the gross concentration of HCI is obtained, Indicating mixed order kinetics with simultaneous catalysis of H+ and CI-.
