Abstract
- Outputs (results) onindividual tree density, canopy cover, and estimated tree carbon stock in Rwanda using aerial images of2008, published in "Mugabowindekwe, M., Brandt, M., Chave, C.,Reiner, F., Skole, D. L, Kariryaa, A., Igel, C.,Hiernaux, P., Ciais, P.,Mertz, O., Tong, X., Li, S., Rwanyiziri, G.,Dushimiyimana, T.,Ndoli, A., Uwizeyimana, V., Lillesø, J-P. B.,Gieseke, F.,Tucker, C. J.,Saatchi, S. &Fensholt, R.Nation-wide mapping of tree-level aboveground carbon stocks in Rwanda.Nation-wide mapping of tree-level aboveground carbon stocks in Rwanda.Nat. Clim. Chang.(2022). https://doi.org/10.1038/s41558-022-01544-w Data description: 1. The tree cover file (file name: 'canopy_cover_100m_Rwanda_2008.tif') is a 100m resolution GeoTIFF file with a reference systemin EPSG: 4326 containing the tree cover (in %) within aha using the 0.25x0.25 m resolution aerial photos of 2008 in Rwanda. The range in the dataset is 0 (0% cover) to 1 (100% cover). 2. The carbon stock file (file name: 'Estimated_carbon_stock_density_Rwanda_2008tif') is a 100m resolution GeoTIFFfile with a reference systemin EPSG: 4326 containing the estimated C stock (in kgs) per hausing the 0.25x0.25 m resolution aerial photos of 2008 in Rwanda, and tree-level allometric approaches. The current product was obtained using the biomass-to-carbon conversion factor of 0.47. Therefore, to obtain biomass, please divide the product by 0.47. 3. The tree density file (file name: 'tree_density_100m_Rwanda_2008.tif') is a 100m resolution GeoTIFF file with a reference systemin EPSG: 4326 containing the sum oftrees mappedper ha using the 0.25x0.25 m resolution aerial photos of 2008 in Rwanda. Notes: 1.To get Biomass, please take the product "Estimated_carbon_stock_density_Rwanda_2008tif" and divide it by 0.47. This is thebiomass-to-carbon conversion rate applied to get the current carbon stock product. 2.In order to visualize the data, the data should be downloaded first on a local directory, then loaded into a GIS or image processing software package. Specifically to visualize the tree cover file, please first change the symbology to be displayed as a "single band gray".
