Abstract

Libraries are uniquely positioned to play an increasing role in the certain future of academic publishing. We participate in the production, consumption, curation, and promotion of scholarship and yet we don't often exert influence to create a system that benefits the anyone other than the publisher. In this job talk, I propose that libraries should be 1) asserting financial influence on the system, 2) become a deeper part of the production of new research, and 3) create new mediums of discourse, new models for scholarship and new modes of "publishing." This is part of my #openjobtalks concept, wherein the deep intellectual work put into a job talk isn't confined to a presentation room.
