A patient with Whipple's disease presented with hepatic and lymph node granulomata which contained no PAS-positive macrophages but which disappeared after penicillin treatment. The absence of PAS-positive staining in the macrophages of hepatic granulomata in Whipple's disease has not previously been reported but does not negate the diagnosis.
