Abstract

Objective: To interpret the beliefs of perceived susceptibility between the condition of pregnancy and oral diseases by pregnant women in Monteria, Cordoba, Colombia. Material and method: Qualitative study with a micro-ethnographic approach. The results were gotten through observation and in-depth interviews that were applied to 21 pregnant women of the commune four in Monteria, Cordoba in 2019, selected by convenience. The information was collected during the first semester of 2019, and it was organized based on the dimension of the Health Belief Model: perceived susceptibility; the analysis was performed under the parameters of the content analysis technique. Results: the prevailing belief among pregnant women was that oral diseases were caused because the baby got all the calcium during pregnancy. Conclusion: The threats suffered by pregnant women act as barriers against the adoption of healthy behaviors, and their permanence in programs to promote oral health and prevent oral diseases.
