Abstract

The elastic scattering of alpha particles from Li6 has been observed from Eα = 0.9 to 2.7 MeV corresponding to excitation energies in B10 of 5.1 to 6.2 MeV. Resonance structure was obtained for the 5.92 MeV level and for the 5.18 MeV level, recently discovered by Sprenkel et al. The analysis gives assignments of 2+(lα=2) and 1+(lα=0), respectively, for these levels. In each case, two-nucleon excitation from the p-shell may be involved. In particular, the assignment of 1+ and T=0 to the 5.18 MeV level supports the proposal made by True and Warburton that this level is a member of the doublet formed by two-nucleon excitation into the 2s shell, the other member being the 0+, T=1 level at 7.56 MeV.
